WAEC DIGITIZES CERTIFICATES FOR EASY GLOBAL ACCESSIBILITY AND CONFIRMATION
Advancing in its mission of encouraging academic and moral excellence, promoting sustainable human resource development and international cooperation, meeting the growing global demands, and ensuring prompt service delivery for the collection of WAEC Certificates, The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria, has unveiled a ground-breaking Digital Certificate platform.
Millions of people across the world will now find it simpler to access and verify their hard-earned educational qualifications, with the introduction of the digital certificate platform launched on Thursday, 20th October 2022 at the WAEC International Office, Lagos Nigeria.
With around 2 million students sitting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) yearly, and with the new digital certificate being available to those who have taken the exam as far back as 1999, over 30 million people are now able to access and share the original copies of their certificates – from anywhere in the world.
This will help those wishing to apply for employment, or further study. The online availability of the certificates means those wishing to pursue further studies or gain employment will be helped too as institutions and organizations across the globe will be able to instantly confirm the certificates presented to them. This promises to simplify what can currently be a complex and time-consuming verification process.
The new platform involves a mobile and web-based application that is designed specifically for candidates, individuals, institutions, and organizations. It is being implemented to streamline the issuance and verification of WAEC certificates thereby improving global mobility by providing candidates with a platform to easily share and verify their certificates for purposes such as employment or further education. Its range of powerful features enables users to access, share, request, and confirm certificates, as well as to recover candidates’ forgotten examination numbers from anywhere in the world, instantly.
Speaking at the official launch, Mr. Patrick E. Areghan, Head of National Office WAEC Nigeria stated that “WAEC has been working hard over the years, evolving to meet the needs of a changing world. From the migration of physical registration of candidates to online registration, online verification of results, and online result printouts. Now, it has taken an important step further by using leading-edge technology to improve students’ experiences as they seek to continue their education.
He further stated that as WAEC continues to experience a paradigm shift in its technological advancement, he is confident that this development will revolutionize the way people interact with the WAEC certificate and drastically improve the mobility of students as they move forward into their very bright futures.
The digital certificate platform is currently available to people in Nigeria. Other member countries are joining the platform in due course; Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia.
